Harare Man Arrested For Impersonating A Nurse At Sally Mugabe Hospital
A 38-year-old man has been arrested at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital in Harare after he was caught posing as a nurse while wearing a state Registered General Nurse uniform.
Godwin Sanyika was arrested on 11 September 2026 as police investigated a case of impersonation at the hospital.

Medical Supplies Recovered
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police, officers recovered several medical items following Sanyika’s arrest.
The items included various medications, gauze swabs, needles and a syringe.

Police Yet To Reveal Further Details
Police have not disclosed how the suspect managed to gain access to the hospital while dressed in the nurse’s uniform.
It is also not yet clear how long Sanyika had been presenting himself as a nurse or whether he had interacted with patients before his arrest.
The circumstances surrounding the impersonation remain under investigation as police work to establish the full extent of the case.
Similar Nurse Impersonation Case Recorded In UK
Just last year, a Zimbabwean man living in the United Kingdom was jailed for more than three years after using another nurse’s identity to secure employment despite having no nursing qualifications.
Ashton Guramatunhu, 46, had registered with a nursing agency in Warrington in 2014 using the identity of a legitimate nurse.
He subsequently obtained jobs at six nursing homes across north-east England, where he worked in positions that required professional qualifications and involved caring for vulnerable patients.
The identity fraud came to light in 2019 after the nurse whose identity had been used contacted the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) over a fitness-to-practise hearing notice that was not meant for him. The discovery triggered an investigation into Guramatunhu’s employment history.
Detective Constable Naomi Sargent, who led the investigation, said Guramatunhu’s deception had exposed patients to serious risks and was motivated by financial gain.
