Chatunga Mugabe Arrest: New Details Emerge About Seized Lamborghini And Mercedes-Benz

Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, the youngest son of Zimbabwe’s late former president Robert Mugabe, has been arrested alongside four other men following the alleged assault of a Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) investigator. More details have now emerged about the operation, which resulted in the seizure of a Lamborghini and a Mercedes-Benz GLE 53 suspected of being illegally kept in Zimbabwe.

The 29-year-old was arrested on Tuesday evening, 3 November 2026, at Brompton Guest Lodge in Newlands, Harare. The incident reportedly happened at around 6.30 pm as investigators pursued information about the two luxury vehicles.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed that five men had been arrested over the alleged assault.

The other suspects were identified as Munashe Mubawu (43), Terrence Johannes Chinyemba (42), Fredson Peter (33) and Solomon Pamire (34).

Chatunga Mugabe Arrest Linked To Lamborghini And Mercedes-Benz Seizure

ZACC spokesperson Simiso Mlevu provided further details about the investigation during a press conference in Harare on Wednesday, 4 November 2026.

She said the commission had received information that two South African-registered luxury vehicles were being kept at the guest lodge.

Investigators suspected that the vehicles had remained in Zimbabwe beyond the periods permitted under their temporary import documents issued by the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA).

Mlevu explained:

“ZACC acted on the information that these vehicles are in the country illegally. Indications are that the vehicles got into the country through ZIMRA-issued temporary import permits on different dates.”

She provided details of the vehicles’ movements across the border.

“The Lamborghini arrived in the country in June, and according to ZIMRA records exited the country on July 12. On the same date, July 12, the Mercedes-Benz GLE 53 got into the country and according to official records it exited for South Africa on October 10.”

However, both vehicles were subsequently found at the Newlands property.

Mlevu also confirmed that a ZACC investigator was allegedly assaulted during the operation.

“One of our officials was assaulted by the suspects who are allegedly involved in the smuggling of the vehicles and the matter was reported to the police.”

When Will Chatunga Mugabe Appear In Court?

The five suspects were detained overnight at Highlands Police Station. They were expected to appear in court on Thursday, 5 November 2026.

Authorities have not clarified the specific role each suspect allegedly played in the suspected vehicle smuggling operation.

Chatunga’s latest arrest adds to his previous encounters with law enforcement in Zimbabwe and South Africa.

In an earlier cannabis-related case, he was arrested alongside his friend Max Mugaba after police found 72 grammes of cannabis in Mugaba’s bag. Prosecutors subsequently withdrew the charge against Chatunga before plea and proceeded against his friend.

He was also arrested in South Africa after his gardener was shot and wounded at a property in Johannesburg. Chatunga was later deported to Zimbabwe after admitting that he was in South Africa illegally.

He has also faced allegations involving an altercation with police officers at a checkpoint in Bubi and claims that he assaulted trespassers at his mother Grace Mugabe’s Mazowe farm.

The latest case now centres on the alleged assault of a ZACC investigator and the circumstances surrounding the two luxury vehicles. The suspects’ appearance in court is expected to provide the next update.
