CAF lifts National sports stadium crowd restrictions for home matches

Zimbabwe’s Warriors have received a major boost ahead of their upcoming international fixtures.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has increased the permitted attendance at home matches to 25,000 supporters.

The decision removes some of the restrictions previously imposed on Zimbabwe’s home fixtures.

CAF introduced the sanctions after a football supporter died during Zimbabwe’s home encounter against the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Following the tragedy, authorities faced pressure to improve stadium safety and crowd management.

Zimbabwe subsequently introduced several measures to address CAF’s concerns.

These efforts initially convinced the continental governing body to allow 10,000 spectators into the stadium.

However, CAF has now approved another increase, more than doubling the previous attendance limit.

New attendance limit comes ahead of Equatorial Guinea clash

The latest development arrives as Zimbabwe prepares to host Equatorial Guinea in an AFCON 2027 Group E qualifier.

The approval allows significantly more supporters to watch the Warriors on home soil.

The new 25,000-person limit also brings the permitted attendance closer to the National Sports Stadium’s current capacity of 30,000.

Meanwhile, organisers have announced ticket prices for the upcoming encounter.

Standard tickets will cost US$20, while supporters seeking VIP access must pay US$100.

The increased attendance limit could provide the Warriors with stronger home support as they pursue their AFCON 2027 ambitions.
