Are you a SASSA Grant receipient and your May SASSA grant has not been paid yet? Below is what you should do to get your money.
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) advises beneficiaries who haven’t received their May payments to visit their nearest SASSA branch promptly. A new verification initiative may require particular recipients to update their personal information in the system.
Understanding the Verification Process
This security measure targets specific cases where:
- Alternative identification methods were used instead of standard 13-digit IDs
- Personal circumstances have changed
- Additional income sources weren’t previously declared
“We’re implementing this validation procedure to enhance system security and ensure accurate beneficiary identification,” explained SASSA representative Paseka Letsatsi.

Required Documentation For SASSA Beneficiaries

Affected individuals must bring their original identity documents when visiting SASSA offices. The agency has coordinated with the Department of Home Affairs and identified cases where valid ID numbers exist in national records but aren’t reflected in the grant system.
Payment Schedule Adjustments
Some May disbursements will experience minor delays, particularly for recipients using non-standard identification. This temporary hold aims to encourage compliance with the verification requirement.
“After successful verification at our offices, we’ll update the system with the correct 13-digit ID numbers,” Letsatsi confirmed.
Beneficiaries who neglect to complete the verification process and do not comply with the demands will risk:
- Immediate suspension of grant payments
- Potential permanent cancellation for continued non-response

The May SASSA grant payment calendar is as follows:
- Older persons’ grants will be paid from Tuesday, May 6
- Disability grants will be paid from Wednesday, May 7
- Children’s grants will be paid from Thursday, May 8
SASSA encourages all recipients to monitor their payments and address any discrepancies immediately to avoid service interruptions.
