Celebrated musician Tocky Vibes has confessed to a staggering US$25K loss following the catastrophic launch of his new album, “Mashangurapata.” The event, held last Saturday at the Alexandra Sports Club in Harare, was a devastating disappointment, with a meagre crowd turning out for what was intended to be a grand unveiling.
The artist, whose real name is Chamakuvangu, had invested heavily in a star-studded line-up to support his new work. Despite the presence of significant acts, the vast venue remained sparsely populated, resulting in a reported loss of over US$25,000.

In the wake of the debacle, social media has been alight with speculation, but the artist and his team have broken their silence. They describe the experience as a challenging but instructive lesson. Tocky Vibes’ manager, Temptation Chirenje, confirmed the significant financial hit and outlined their unconventional response.

“Despite our financial loss and the criticism on social media, we are more committed than ever to reconnect with our fans,” Chirenje stated.
He revealed their plan to host a free concert for a second launch of the “Mashangurapata” album, a move almost unheard of in an industry where artists fiercely protect their earnings.
This bold strategy appears to be born from a desire to engage with the fanbase and understand what went wrong directly. Chirenje emphasised that this is not a surrender, but a recalibration.
“We want to offer an opportunity for those who may not afford to attend his shows to come and enjoy the music,” he explained. “We wished for our fans to be there last weekend, but many were unable due to various circumstances.”
The manager was candid about the impact of competing events on the same weekend, notably the free Chibuku Road To Fame festival and the Jacaranda Festival, which featured heavyweight artists like Winky D.
“We considered various factors but couldn’t justify further investment in postponement. Sometimes, we must accept the situation and regroup,” Chirenje admitted, confirming that all financial commitments for the original launch had been honoured.

Despite the setback and the online ridicule, including the event being labelled a contender for ‘Flop of the Year’, the team insists that Tocky Vibes’ spirit remains unbroken. Chirenje reported that the musician is already channeling his energy back into his craft.
“Tocky is a resilient individual who will always push through,” he asserted. “He remains undeterred by last weekend’s incident, understanding it’s just part of the journey.”
