Announcing Scott’s death, President Hakainde Hichilema praised his years of public service.

“It is with deep sadness that we have learned of the passing of Dr Guy Scott, former Vice-President of the Republic of Zambia, who died today at the age of 82.”

The President reflected on Scott’s leadership during one of Zambia’s most challenging moments.

“Dr Scott gave many years of his life to public service. He served as Vice-President of our Republic, and stepped in to lead the nation at a difficult moment following the death of President Michael Sata, guiding Zambia through that transition with a steady hand and a commitment to constitutional order.”

Hichilema also confirmed that Scott would receive full State honours.

“At my direction, we have accorded the late former Vice-President a State Funeral, in recognition of his service to our nation.”
