Police on High Alert Ahead of CAB 3 Deliberations, Issues Warning Against Violence

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has announced heightened security measures ahead of ongoing deliberations on Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 (CAB 3) in Parliament, warning that anyone who incites violence or public disorder will face legal consequences.

In a statement issued on 3 June 2026, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, Chief Staff Officer responsible for Press and Public Relations, said police expect Zimbabweans to maintain peace and uphold law and order while the legislative process continues in the August House.

The police said they were closely monitoring developments surrounding the Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 discussions.

In the statement, the ZRP said it “expects peace and the general maintenance of law and order to be observed by Zimbabweans” as the country follows the parliamentary deliberations.

Police also warned that the law would apply to individuals, groups and syndicates that allegedly incite violence or issue threats through social media platforms.

According to the ZRP, authorities remain committed to maintaining public safety throughout the period of debate and public interest surrounding the proposed constitutional changes.

Police warn against public disorder and disruption

The police cautioned against actions that could lead to unrest or disruption of daily activities.

In its statement, the ZRP said,

“Any attempt to influence Zimbabweans to revolt against the Government, destroy property, affect smooth flow of traffic and cause alarm and chaos will be responded to appropriately by the Police through the full wrath of the law.”

The force said it remains on high alert and is taking steps to ensure that citizens continue to enjoy safety and security across the country.

Zimbabweans urged to report disturbances

Authorities also encouraged members of the public to play a role in maintaining peace.

The ZRP urged citizens to report individuals or groups involved in any form of public disturbance through its National Complaints Desk or WhatsApp reporting channels.

Commissioner Nyathi said Zimbabweans should continue observing peace and public safety while carrying out their social and economic activities.

The police statement comes as public attention remains focused on CAB 3 deliberations in Parliament. While debate around the proposed constitutional amendments continues, authorities say maintaining peace, security and public order remains a priority.
