Zimbabwe Pacer Blessing Muzarabani Sparks Controversy After Snubbing PSL for IPL Contract
Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani has caused a stir in cricketing circles after pulling out of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) at the last moment to join the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The pacer, 29, was initially picked by Islamabad United for PKR 11 million. However, an offer from Kolkata Knight Riders prompted Muzarabani to switch allegiances, signing up for the IPL’s 19th edition, which begins on March 28.
According to reports, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) are reportedly considering legal measures against the bowler for withdrawing after initially committing to the PSL.

A Repeat of Last Year’s Controversy
Muzarabani’s decision mirrors last year’s situation, when South African pacer Corbin Bosch similarly opted for the IPL after being selected as a “Diamond Pick” by Peshawar Zalmi, eventually joining the Mumbai Indians.
This is the second consecutive season in which a player has prioritized IPL participation over a PSL contract, highlighting the growing pull of the Indian league over competing T20 tournaments.
Muzarabani’s Recent Form Makes Him In-Demand
Zimbabwe fans are not surprised by IPL interest in Muzarabani. The tall pacer was the country’s standout performer at the T20 World Cup, finishing with 13 wickets in six matches — the second-highest tally of the tournament.
His contributions were pivotal in helping Zimbabwe top Group B and advance to the Super 8s. Notably, he claimed four wickets against Australia, propelling the Sikandar Raza-led team to a decisive group-stage victory.
PSL and IPL Schedules Clash
The PSL is scheduled to start on March 26, two days before the IPL opener. This year, the PSL features eight teams, including two newcomers, with the final set for May 3.
Meanwhile, the IPL will also kick off on March 26 with defending champions Royal Challengers Bangalore facing Sunrisers Hyderabad, followed by KKR taking on Mumbai Indians the next day.
The IPL final is scheduled for May 31, though the full fixture list remains dependent on the announcement of elections in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Assam.
PCB Warns Players About Commitments
The PCB’s frustration reflects concerns about maintaining the credibility and competitiveness of the PSL when players opt for IPL contracts at the last minute. Officials stress that clear agreements and adherence to commitments are essential for the league’s growth.
As cricketing nations increasingly compete for top talent, Muzarabani’s move underscores the IPL’s continued dominance in attracting premier T20 players worldwide.
