Pitso Mosimane Opens Up on Ghana Snub as FA Opts for Queiroz
South African coach Pitso Mosimane has addressed speculation linking him to the Ghana national team job, revealing that talks were never as serious as they were made out to be.
The experienced tactician, currently unattached, said there was no formal approach despite widespread reports tipping him for the role.
Mosimane, who previously coached Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly, was among several high-profile names linked with the West African side ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana Turns to Queiroz After Addo Exit
According to Goal.com, the coaching vacancy arose after the Ghana Football Association parted ways with Otto Addo following a disappointing run of four consecutive defeats during the latest FIFA international break.
Despite early speculation around Mosimane, the association ultimately moved in a different direction, appointing Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz to take charge as they aim to stabilise results ahead of World Cup qualifiers.
‘Nothing Concrete,’ Says Mosimane
Speaking candidly, Mosimane confirmed that his representatives had been contacted but stressed that the engagement lacked substance.
“There was a bit of talk. When I asked the office, they said there were talks — but sometimes teams want three names and then decide who they want,” he said.
He added that a serious offer would have been formalised in writing, making it clear he did not view the Ghana interest as genuine.
“Concrete is when a letter comes to say we would like to have you. A call from a Ghana official for me is not really serious,” Mosimane explained.
Short-Term Role Not Appealing
The 61-year-old further revealed that the nature of the role itself may not have suited his current career plans. With only a handful of matches scheduled in the near term, Mosimane suggested the job lacked long-term appeal.
“The other thing is, do I really want to go two months for one or two games? Maybe I don’t want to. If you ask me, it may not be well for me to go for three games,” he said.
Future Still Uncertain Amid Chiefs Links
Mosimane remains without a club but continues to be linked with several opportunities, including a possible return to South African football with Kaizer Chiefs.
For now, the seasoned coach appears content to wait for a project that aligns with his ambitions, rather than rushing into a short-term international assignment.
