Kaizer Chiefs transfer news takes another twist as Thembinkosi Lorch move is ruled out

Thembinkosi Lorch will not make a move to Kaizer Chiefs despite recent speculation surrounding his future.

The former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns forward has attracted attention from several clubs. However, a return to the South African Premiership does not appear imminent.

Lorch currently plays for Libyan giants Al-Ittihad Tripoli. Nevertheless, his next destination could reportedly be elsewhere in North Africa.

Lorch attracts interest beyond South Africa

Reports recently linked Lorch with Kaizer Chiefs after he attended their clash against Sundowns. His appearance at the match quickly intensified the transfer speculation.

However, Lorch was already in South Africa at the time. He has since returned to Libya as questions continue surrounding his future.

Information received by The South African indicates interest from two Moroccan clubs. Wydad Athletic Club and MAS Fes have reportedly shown interest in the experienced attacker.

Therefore, Lorch appears more likely to remain in North Africa. A return to the Premiership is currently not part of his plans.

Sources within the Chiefs camp have also ruled out a move to Naturena. His salary demands reportedly represent one major obstacle.

Additionally, his age could prevent Chiefs from pursuing the experienced forward. Lorch turned 33, making a costly transfer less attractive for Amakhosi.

Meanwhile, his future at Al-Ittihad remains uncertain. Lorch joined the Libyan club after Rulani Mokwena helped bring him to Tripoli.

Mokwena has since taken charge of Egyptian club Pyramids. Consequently, Lorch could now consider his options away from Al-Ittihad.

Lorch’s impressive professional record

Lorch began his professional journey after Pirates discovered him at Maluti FET College. He subsequently established himself as one of South Africa’s notable attacking players.

His career has included spells with Pirates, Sundowns, Wydad and Al-Ittihad Tripoli. He also represented Chippa United during his time in South Africa’s top flight.

Across his professional career, Lorch has made 258 competitive appearances. He has scored 53 goals and delivered 42 assists during that period.

Furthermore, the attacker has represented Bafana Bafana nine times. His only international goal came against Egypt at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

Lorch therefore remains an experienced figure with an impressive career across several African leagues. For now, however, his next chapter appears likely to continue outside the PSL.
