Zimbabweans Outraged After Malaika Mushandu Is Dethroned As Miss Cosmo Zimbabwe
Zimbabweans have taken to social media to vent their anger after Malaika Mushandu was stripped of her Miss Cosmo Zimbabwe 2026 title.
The dethronement has triggered a wave of criticism, with disgruntled netizens questioning the decision and demanding answers from the pageant organisers.
Miss Universe Zimbabwe confirmed that Mushandu ceased to be the country’s recognised titleholder on June 23.
“The organisation hereby confirms, unequivocally, that Ms Malaika Mushandu was dethroned as Miss Cosmo Zimbabwe 2026 with effect from 23 June 2026,” said the organisation.

Pageant Organisation Confirms Decision
In a statement issued on August 22, Miss Universe Zimbabwe said Mushandu was removed from the title over issues relating to misconduct and ineligibility.
The organisation said she had failed to meet certain standards and obligations attached to the position.
It said these requirements were set by both Miss Universe Zimbabwe and the international Miss Cosmo Organisation.
The organisation maintained that the decision was necessary to protect the credibility and integrity of the title.
Mushandu No Longer Recognised As Titleholder
Miss Universe Zimbabwe said Mushandu no longer has the authority to identify herself as Miss Cosmo Zimbabwe 2026.
She is also prohibited from representing the organisation in that capacity.
The organisation said it had noticed claims suggesting that Mushandu remained the reigning titleholder.
It dismissed those claims and reiterated that her removal became effective on June 23.
However, the organisation did not disclose exactly what Mushandu allegedly did to warrant her dethronement.
Netizens Question Decision
The lack of specific details has fuelled anger and speculation online.
Some Zimbabweans have criticised the organisation for announcing the dethronement without explaining the alleged misconduct or eligibility concerns.
Others have questioned the timing of the announcement, given that Mushandu was reportedly dethroned almost two months before the statement was made public.
Social media discussions have also produced claims of an alleged fallout between Mushandu and Miss Universe Zimbabwe chief executive Tendai Hunda.
