Gokwe School Head Dies After Alleged Attack Over Neighbour’s Beer
Nyamhara Primary School head Charles Chikozho died after he was allegedly attacked by his neighbour, who accused him of giving his wife opaque beer. The incident happened on Sunday, 23 August 2026, at Mativenga Village under Headman Nembudziya in Gokwe North.
School Head Allegedly Attacked With Hammer And Burning Log
According to The Mirror, Chikozho was carrying a 20-litre bucket of opaque beer when he passed through the homestead of Lancelord Muzenda, 31. Muzenda’s wife, Rumbidzai Murandu, 41, allegedly asked Chikozho for some beer.
Chikozho allegedly gave her about 2 litres.
The court heard that Muzenda later returned home and found his wife drunk. After asking where she had obtained the beer, he allegedly went to confront Chikozho.
The Mirror reported that Muzenda was armed with a claw hammer and a knife when he allegedly broke into Chikozho’s bedroom.
“He allegedly threatened Chikozho’s family, broke into a bedroom the former was sleeping in and severely assaulted him.”
Muzenda allegedly returned home after the assault and dragged Murandu back to Chikozho’s house.
Couple Facing Murder Charges
The court heard that Murandu was allegedly ordered to assault Chikozho with a burning log several times.
Chikozho was later pronounced dead after being taken to Gokwe North Hospital.
Muzenda and Murandu were arrested and appeared at Gokwe Magistrates Court, where they were remanded in custody as proceedings continue.
The Mirror also reported separate allegations involving Muzenda and a minor, as well as syphilis test results involving the parties. These allegations are separate from the murder charge.
The allegations have brought a shocking sequence of events before the Gokwe courts. The case now turns on evidence presented as investigations and proceedings continue.
