Scottland FC Eyes $160K Jackpot In High-Stakes MWOS Clash
Khama Billiat’s Scottland FC are poised for a massive payday — a staggering US$160,000 (around R2.9 million) in winning bonuses — if they overcome rivals MWOS in their Castle Lager Premier Soccer League showdown at Ngoni Stadium on Saturday.
The match, already steeped in history and rivalry, now carries one of the biggest single-match incentives in Zimbabwean football thanks to a flurry of financial pledges from Scottland’s backers. The headline figure comes from flamboyant sponsor Sir Wicknell Chivayo, who has alone pledged US$100,000 (approximately R1.8 million) for a Scottland victory.
“Sir Wicknell pledges $100k
,” the club confirmed on X, formerly Twitter.
“Pledges now US$160 000 for a win in Norton
,” Scottland FC added in a follow-up post.
The club’s other sponsors quickly followed suit, pushing the figure higher. Prevail Group of Companies put up an additional US$50,000 (R918,000), while Exquisite Cars pledged US$10,000 (R183,000), bringing the total to US$160,000.

“Jackpot” match for debutants turned contenders
The enormous payout has turned the match into one of the most financially lucrative regular season fixtures in recent Zimbabwean memory. For Scottland FC, who are in their debut PSL season and sit third on the table, the incentives are more than symbolic.
“Ngoni jackpot! Our partners have pledged winning bonuses for the eagerly awaited clash with MWOS at Ngoni Stadium tomorrow,” the club posted.
Scottland FC’s meteoric rise has been bankrolled by heavy investment, particularly from Chivayo. In November 2024, he donated US$1.6 million (R29.4 million) and 20 cars to the club following their promotion to the Premier League.
“I will gladly go ahead and honour the USD 1 million pledge I made to the club… I am pleased to further commit an additional pledge of USD 600,000,” Chivayo said at the time.
Rivalry, redemption, and riches
Saturday’s clash is more than just a league match. It’s a high-stakes rematch between two of the league’s most dramatic debutants. MWOS currently lead the league with 27 points. Scottland trail by just four in third place with 23. For both teams, the match is a title-defining fixture — but for Scottland, the financial windfall adds even greater pressure.
The club’s rivalry with MWOS dates back to their fierce promotion battle in 2024. That campaign ended controversially when Scottland were awarded points after a match against Karoi United was abandoned. The decision helped them leapfrog MWOS for the sole promotion slot.
Despite MWOS later buying their way into the PSL by acquiring ZPC Hwange’s franchise, the bitterness from that season remains. And now, the cash on offer only intensifies the stakes.
“It’s not just a game anymore. There’s legacy, there’s history, and now there’s money on the line,” said one supporter on social media.
The match will also be a test run for the PSL’s new e-ticketing system, as no physical tickets will be sold at the gate. Fans must purchase tickets in advance and verify at entry points — a move designed to modernise Zimbabwean football’s matchday operations.
But as anticipation builds, one thing is clear — if Scottland beat MWOS, they won’t just take home three points. They’ll walk away with a record payday.
