Robert Mugabe Junior Found Guilty Of Drugs — Tells Court He’s A Single Father

Robert Mugabe Junior Found Guilty Of Drugs Charges, Pleads For Court’s Mercy

Robert Mugabe Junior, the son of Zimbabwe’s late former president Robert Mugabe, has been found guilty of illegal possession of drugs. The ruling was handed down on Thursday, 13 November 2025, at the Harare Magistrates Court by Magistrate Lisa Mutendereki.

Mugabe, who is 33, pleaded guilty to being in possession of two grams of dagga, admitting the offence in open court. He begged for leniency, telling the magistrate that he was a single father of two and asked the court to show compassion.

“I am a single father raising two children. I ask the court to be lenient with me,” Mugabe pleaded.

He is expected back in court later this afternoon for sentencing.

Found With Dagga During Traffic Stop

Mugabe’s troubles began on 1 October 2025, when police stopped his silver Honda Fit during a traffic operation in central Harare. Officers reportedly found a small stash of dagga in his bag.

Prosecutor Mandirasa Chigumira told the court that the search uncovered:

“Two sachets of dagga, one pack of Rizla, and a white dagga crusher.”

The recovered dagga weighed two grams and had an estimated street value of US$30 (R550).

Chigumira also told the court that Mugabe had refused to sign the seizure receipt issued by the arresting officers.

Previous Court Appearance And Bail

Mugabe initially appeared in court on 2 October 2025 and spent two nights in custody before being granted bail of US$300 (R5,500). Magistrate Mutendereki ordered that he report to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) every Friday and remain at his listed address until the case was finalised.

The court proceedings were closely followed on social media, with users expressing mixed reactions to the case.

Police Allegations Of A Wider Syndicate

While Mugabe has now been convicted for personal drug possession, police had earlier linked him to a larger network.

Commissioner Paul Nyathi of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) previously told the press on 2 October 2025 that investigations had uncovered a syndicate.

“The haul from the syndicate consisted of 25 sachets of Indo hybrid dagga and six ecstasy pills,” he said.

Those alleged to be part of the group included Phillip Munetsi Chiyangwa, Mitchel Jackson, Simbarashe Kaseke, Wellington Icube, and Tanaka Kashamba.

However, in court, prosecutors only dealt with Mugabe’s personal possession charge and not the wider syndicate claims.

History Of Legal Trouble

This is not Mugabe Junior’s first brush with the law. In February 2023, he was arrested for allegedly damaging cars and property during a party in Harare. That case was later withdrawn after compensation was paid.

His lawyer, Ashiel Mugiya, who represented him in the 2023 case, again stood by him in the latest one.

“He accepts responsibility for what happened and has cooperated with the authorities,” Mugiya said outside the court.

Mugabe will return to court this afternoon for sentencing, where Magistrate Mutendereki is expected to decide his fate.
