Maskiri Granted Bail After Police Sting Over US$1.5K Goat Scam

Rapper Maskiri has been released on US$50 bail after a dramatic police sting led to his arrest over an alleged goat-selling scam involving a US-based Zimbabwean.

He is expected back in court on December 2, while an out-of-court settlement is reportedly underway.

According to officials, Maskiri’s association, Mash Goats, has offered to compensate the complainant by delivering the goats in an effort to have the matter withdrawn.

Sting Operation: Police Pose as Fans to Lure Maskiri

The arrest followed a well-coordinated trap by Chitungwiza police, who pretended to be fans organising a birthday party and requesting Maskiri’s performance.

Investigators say the rapper agreed to a US$300 booking fee and even indicated he would bring fellow musician Tererai Mugwadi. Officers Dulani and Mushaninga later invited him to meet at Chicken Inn, Unit C junction, claiming they had secured a US$200 deposit.

Maskiri arrived unsuspecting — and was immediately taken into custody.

How the Goat Deal Went Wrong

The case stems from a US$1,500 transaction initiated by Tonderayi Chisoro, a Zimbabwean living in the United States.

Chisoro said he paid the money in three Mukuru transactions after Maskiri allegedly promised to deliver five goats for his family back home. However, the delivery never happened.

“I sent the money through Mukuru in three transactions. But when I started asking about the first delivery of five goats, the young man started changing goal posts… Eventually he just went quiet,” Chisoro told investigators.

After weeks of unanswered calls and messages, Chisoro alerted relatives in Zimbabwe, who filed a police report at Chitungwiza Police Station under CR559/11/25.

Case Continues as Parties Explore Settlement

Police launched a search for Maskiri, leading to the undercover operation that resulted in his arrest on 24 November.

Sources say negotiations are ongoing, with Maskiri’s team attempting to resolve the issue privately by providing the goats originally paid for.

The court is expected to make further determinations when he appears again on December 2.
