BAZ Slashes Broadcasting Fees By 50% In Major Industry Boost
Zimbabwe’s broadcasting sector is set for a major shake-up after the Government approved a significant reduction in regulatory fees for broadcasters. The Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ) announced on 12 June 2026 that licensing and regulatory charges across several broadcasting categories have been cut by an average of 50%.
The move comes through Statutory Instrument 103 of 2026 and takes effect immediately.
BAZ Announces Major Fee Reduction
In a press statement issued on 12 June 2026, the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe said the review was part of the Government’s Ease of Doing Business agenda.
BAZ said:
“The Government has approved a review of regulatory fees for broadcasting services through Statutory Instrument 103 of 2026.”
The authority added that the review had led to a substantial reduction in fees charged across the sector.
“The review, undertaken under the Government’s Ease of Doing Business agenda, has resulted in an average 50% reduction in broadcasting licensing and regulatory fees across various categories of broadcasting services.”
The reduction applies to a wide range of broadcasting services.
Broadcasters, Radio Stations And Webcasters To Benefit
According to the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ), the revised fee structure covers commercial radio and television stations, community broadcasters, campus radio stations, webcasting services, subscription broadcasting operators, signal carriers and other broadcasting-related services.
BAZ said the objective is to make it easier and more affordable for operators to conduct business while encouraging further investment in the sector.
The authority stated:
“The fee reductions are intended to promote investment, lower the cost of doing business, support the sustainability of broadcasters, and encourage growth and innovation within Zimbabwe’s broadcasting sector.”
The development is expected to affect both existing broadcasters and prospective investors seeking opportunities in the industry.
New Charges Take Effect Immediately
BAZ confirmed that the revised fee structure became effective immediately following the publication of Statutory Instrument 103 of 2026.
The authority said:
“The new fee structure takes effect immediately upon publication of Statutory Instrument 103 of 2026.”
Licensees have also been given the option of settling prescribed fees in local currency.
BAZ explained:
“Licensees may pay the prescribed fees in local currency at the prevailing market exchange rate.”
The regulator said it remains committed to creating a supportive environment for the broadcasting industry.
“BAZ remains committed to creating an enabling regulatory environment that supports a vibrant, competitive, and sustainable broadcasting industry.”
