Warriors defender eyes England move

Before Bosnia, the former Huddersfield Town academy graduate spent time in England and Ireland. Now, he could be heading back to the Championship.

Cardiff City make move for Shane Maroodza

Championship newcomers Cardiff City have reportedly targeted Warriors defender Shane Maroodza.

According to The72, citing transfer journalist Lorenzo Lepore, Cardiff submitted a £750,000 bid for the 22-year-old FK Sarajevo centre-back.

The Bluebirds want to strengthen their squad before the new Championship season. Head coach Brian Barry-Murphy is eager to add defensive quality after securing promotion.

However, the proposed transfer remains uncertain.

FK Sarajevo have not confirmed whether they accepted the offer. Likewise, there has been no indication that Maroodza has agreed personal terms with the Welsh club.

Strong season boosts transfer interest

Maroodza impressed during his first full season with FK Sarajevo after joining the Bosnian club in October 2025.

The Zimbabwe international made 22 appearances across all competitions. He also helped Sarajevo finish third in the Bosnian Premier League.

His journey began in the Huddersfield Town academy before leaving the English club in 2024.

After that, he enjoyed a brief spell with Irish side Kerry. Soon afterwards, he secured a move to Bosnia, where his performances attracted fresh interest.

Meanwhile, Cardiff could benefit from an existing relationship with Sarajevo during negotiations.

The report states that Bluebirds owner Vincent Tan owned a 50 percent stake in the Bosnian club until January 2026. That connection could help both clubs reach an agreement.

Maroodza also holds a UK passport. Therefore, he would not need a work permit to complete a return to English football if the deal goes through.
