Self-Proclaimed Prophet Arrested After US$250K Heist, Cash and Car Recovered

A self-proclaimed prophet and his alleged accomplice have been arrested in connection with a daring US$250 000 robbery.

Learnmore Mirison (25) and Thomas Kanhu (31) are accused of orchestrating the high-value heist, which investigators say involved inside assistance and meticulous planning.

They were brought before Harare regional magistrate Jesse Kufa, where they were remanded in custody pending a bail hearing.

Inside the Alleged Robbery Plot

Prosecutors say the accused orchestrated the theft with the help of a third suspect, Obert Mirison, who was employed as a night guard at the targeted premises.

The complainant, Zhang Yung, had reportedly secured the cash in a safe inside a locked room earlier on the day of the incident.

It is alleged that under the cover of darkness, the trio gained access using keys taken from within the property, removed the safe, and smuggled it out without raising suspicion.

Getaway and Safe Break-In

According to court submissions, the suspects used multiple hired vehicles to transport the safe across several locations, eventually taking it to a secluded mountain area in Eastview.

There, they allegedly forced it open and divided the cash, with the security guard said to have taken the largest share before going into hiding.

Suspicion Leads to Police Report

The following morning, the businessman became suspicious after noticing missing keys. Upon forcing entry into the safe room, he discovered the safe had vanished and reported the matter to Zimbabwe Republic Police.

Arrests and Recoveries

Investigations by CID detectives led to the arrest of Mirison, who allegedly cooperated with authorities and directed them to key evidence.

Police recovered US$31 800 in cash from his residence, along with the stolen safe and a blanket believed to have been used during the heist.

Kanhu was later arrested, and a search at his premises led to the recovery of US$25 700, an iPhone 16 Pro Max, and an unregistered Honda Shuttle suspected to have been bought using stolen funds.

Investigations Continue

Authorities say a total of US$70 600 has been recovered so far, while efforts are ongoing to track down the remaining suspect and recover the outstanding funds.

The two accused are expected back in court as investigations continue into the high-value robbery case.
