Dynamos Football Club has moved to contain growing speculation over alleged match manipulation after an internal letter suspending head coach Genesis Mangombe was leaked to the public.
In a statement released on Thursday, 25 June, Executive Chairman Vincent Chawonza said the correspondence to Mangombe and some members of his technical team was “strictly confidential” and meant for internal disciplinary processes only.
The statement follows days of frenzied media reports and social media chatter after the suspension letter surfaced, sparking claims that other Premier Soccer League (PSL) clubs and officials could be implicated in a match-fixing ring.
Dynamos dismissed those claims outright.
“At this stage, Dynamos Football Club categorically states that, based on the preliminary findings and information currently available, no allegations have been made against any other Premier Soccer League (PSL) club, official, or external individual,” said Chawonza.
“No other PSL clubs are implicated in these allegations, and any assertions to the contrary are false, misleading, and without foundation.”
The suspension letter accuses Mangombe of match manipulation “through the deliberate deployment of players in unsuitable positions, thereby weakening the team’s competitive performance.”
Chawonza stressed that while certain fixtures and opposing clubs were mentioned in the letter, it was only because those games form part of the internal investigation.
In the suspension letter, Dynamos said Mangombe is accused of ensuring the team would “either lose the games or at least draw (avoiding a win result)” in four matches.
The matches cited are the 5-0 defeat by Scottland in the Castle Challenge Cup on 1 March 2026 — after he allegedly fielded players out of position “without justifiable reasons” — along with the 1-0 loss to Highlanders in the Charity Shield, the 2-2 draw with Hunters and the 2-1 defeat to CAPS United.
“References to specific fixtures and opposing clubs were included solely because those matches form part of the allegations under investigation and should not be interpreted as implicating any opposing team or its officials,” the statement read.
“Dynamos Football Club wishes to reassure the PSL, our sponsors, supporters, and all stakeholders that there is no evidence suggesting that the integrity of the league has been compromised,” Chawonza said.
“This matter remains an isolated internal issue which the Club is treating with the utmost seriousness and professionalism.”
The club confirmed that Mangombe and unnamed technical team members remain suspended while investigations continue, but declined to give further details.
“In the interest of preserving the integrity of the ongoing process, the Club will not issue any further comments… until the internal investigation has been concluded,” the statement added.
