WATCH: Pitso Mosimane unveiled as Bafana Bafana coach

Pitso Mosimane has officially returned to the Bafana Bafana hot seat after being unveiled as South Africa’s new coach.

The South African Football Association confirmed his appointment at SAFA House in Johannesburg on Tuesday.

Mosimane replaces Hugo Broos, who departed after guiding Bafana Bafana to a historic World Cup knockout-stage appearance.

The appointment also marks a remarkable homecoming for one of South Africa’s most decorated football coaches.

Mosimane embraces national responsibility

Speaking after his unveiling, Mosimane expressed gratitude for receiving another opportunity to lead his country.

He described the occasion as a special moment in his football career.

“I have been given the privilege of leading our national team again,” Mosimane said.

He also stressed that the position carries responsibilities far beyond football.

“I know this is not simply a coaching job; it is bigger than Pitso Mosimane,” he added.

Mosimane acknowledged the expectations surrounding Bafana Bafana and the importance of representing South Africa.

He therefore accepted the challenge with pride, determination and humility.

The 62-year-old returns with considerably more experience than during his previous national-team spell.

Since leaving Bafana, Mosimane has enjoyed tremendous success at club level across Africa and the Middle East.

His achievements include three CAF Champions League titles, highlighting his growth as a coach.

Mosimane faces immediate Bafana challenge

Now, however, his attention turns towards rebuilding and strengthening the national team.

Mosimane also praised Broos for raising Bafana’s standards during his successful tenure.

He believes the team must build upon that foundation rather than start again.

Consequently, his immediate challenge involves preparing South Africa for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Bafana face Guinea at home before travelling to face Eritrea later this month.

Mosimane will therefore have little time to settle into his new position.

Nevertheless, his return has created excitement among South African football supporters.

The coach now carries another opportunity to leave his mark on the national team.

More importantly, Mosimane knows the responsibility extends beyond results.

He is once again leading the team representing millions of South Africans.
