The Harare Magistrates Court has intervened after a sibling’s fight over a girl grew fierce and deadly.

Kenneth testified that Williams assaulted him with dangerous tools, including a hammer and screwdriver, resulting in visible injuries.

“The attacks escalated to threats against my life when I refused to end the relationship,”
Kenneth told the court. He further claimed Williams attempted to forcibly remove him from their shared residence while physically assaulting him by pulling his dreadlocks and brandishing a knife.
“The entire neighborhood knows we’re feuding over this woman, but I won’t abandon the relationship – I was involved with her first,” Kenneth stated, adding that police reports had failed to stop the harassment.

Defendant Counters With Safety Concerns
Williams presented a contrasting account, denying the assault allegations and instead portraying himself as a concerned family member. He asserted that Kenneth’s romantic partner engaged in illegal drug activities, making their shared home unsafe.
“I’ve repeatedly warned my brother that his girlfriend associates with criminals and thieves,” Williams explained to the court. “My only intention was protecting our household from potential danger that her presence invites.”

Court’s Decision and Warning
After reviewing both testimonies, Magistrate Meenal Narotam ruled in Kenneth’s favour, issuing a formal protection order against Williams. The magistrate explicitly prohibited any form of physical abuse between the brothers and warned of legal consequences for violations.
This case highlights how personal relationships can fracture family bonds, sometimes requiring judicial intervention to ensure safety and order. The court’s decision aims to de-escalate tensions while allowing both parties to resolve their differences through legal channels rather than violence.
