Before Ndoro’s own update, concerns over his condition had been heightened by a leaked audio recording of his mother, who appeared distressed while speaking to a family acquaintance.

Tendai is in hospital in Durban,” she says in the recording. “The person he stays with had to call us because he hasn’t been talking to us. His sugar levels were reportedly very low, and his eyes sank in. He also had a swollen area under his armpit.”

She further lamented her inability to travel to see him due to financial constraints.

It hurts me that I don’t even have money to go and see him or bring him home.”
