ZRP Officer Accused Of Murder After Chopping Up Suspect’s Body
A police officer in Bulilima has been accused of beating a suspect to death, dismembering the body, and disposing of the remains in a pit latrine behind a clinic.
H-Metro reports that Constable Blessed Moyo, stationed at Malalume Police Base, is now at the centre of a chilling murder case that has shaken the small village of Malalume.
“We trusted him to protect us but he was the devil in our midst,” said a shopkeeper at Tjaguta Business Centre.
“He abused power, harassed us for beer, and now this? He must rot in jail.”
Suspect arrested, then vanished
The horror began in early February when Melisa Ndlovu, a local villager, discovered someone stealing food and clothes from her home. The thief fled but was soon captured and brought to the police base by Constable Moyo.
The man, who claimed to be from Binga and was said to be mentally unstable, was reportedly handcuffed and assaulted in front of several witnesses.
“He was beaten with a mopane switch, sjambok, cooking stick, and even a plastic pick handle until he confessed,” a police source revealed.
“He begged for water and said he felt dizzy. Constable Moyo then dismissed everyone else, saying he would organise transport to Bulawayo. That was the last time anyone saw the man alive.”
Bones in the toilet
On 22 May, the remains of a man were found buried in a pit latrine behind the police base and clinic. The discovery included a skull, skeletal fragments, torn clothes, blood-stained Okapi knife, and a pair of handcuffs.
Traditional healers and prophets were summoned by villagers to uncover what had happened.
“Even bones can talk,” said one villager. “We want justice for the soul he buried.”
Constable Moyo was arrested and appeared at Plumtree Magistrate’s Court on 23 May. He was denied bail by magistrate Mark Dzira. The State is represented by prosecutor Arnold Mudekunye.
Village in shock
The case has stunned Malalume. Many locals now question how someone entrusted with law enforcement could allegedly commit such a crime.
“We are not fools,” said one elderly villager.
“That man was killed in cold blood and they tried to bury the truth. But the ancestors refused to be silenced.”
Headman Senganyondo declined to comment, stating only that the matter was now before the courts.
