A devastating accident involving a Munhenzva bus has claimed four lives after the South Africa-bound coach overturned near Rutenga. The tragic incident occurred on Sunday over the busy route used by many travelling between Zimbabwe and South Africa. The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed the fatal crash, which has left families grieving and several passengers injured.
The Munhenzva bus was travelling from Harare to Cape Town when the accident happened along the Masvingo-Beitbridge Road. The bus, carrying hopeful passengers towards South Africa, met with disaster near Rutenga Growth Point.
While an exact number was initially unclear, it was confirmed that numerous passengers sustained injuries of varying severity.
Zimbabwe Republic Police national spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, provided official details of the location and time. He stated:
“The ZRP reports a fatal road traffic accident involving a Munhenzva bus travelling from Harare to Cape Town, which occurred at the 155 km peg along the Masvingo–Beitbridge road today, November 16, 2025, at around 1720 hours.”
In the aftermath of the crash, emergency services and local communities rushed to assist the victims. The injured were transported to nearby medical facilities for urgent treatment. Commissioner Nyathi indicated that a full investigation is underway, promising that more information will be released to the public soon. He concluded his initial statement by saying:
“More details will be released in due course.”
The Munhenzva Bus Company has yet to release an official statement regarding the accident or the condition of the injured passengers. Families are now awaiting further news as authorities work to provide clarity and support in the wake of this tragedy.
