Former Bafana Bafana midfielder Sipho Mbule has finally addressed his departure from Orlando Pirates.
The midfielder left the Soweto giants after spending only one season at the club.
During his stay, Mbule helped Pirates secure a domestic treble. He also made 23 appearances in all competitions and scored once.
However, the club decided against extending his contract. As a result, Mbule became a free agent. He later shared a heartfelt message with Pirates supporters on social media.
“Thanks for the year that was filled with happy moments than sad moments. Till we meet again. To Orlando Pirates fans, thanks for everything; for the love, for the noise & the belief,” he wrote on social media.

Meanwhile, Zakho SC confirmed Mbule’s arrival on Saturday. The Iraqi club announced his signing for the upcoming campaign.
“South African player Sipho Mbule has officially signed with our club for the 2026–2027 season in the Iraqi Stars Football League,” the club stated.
The club also praised the South African midfielder’s qualities.
“Sipho Mbule stands out for his impressive speed and intelligence, with the ability to dictate the flow of the game at will and dominate the midfield.
“With Sipho’s arrival, our midfield will be stronger than ever.”
Mbule previously represented SuperSport United, Sekhukhune United, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Orlando Pirates.
Nevertheless, off-field problems repeatedly disrupted his promising career. Now, his move to Iraq offers a fresh opportunity to revive his career.
Many believe he can rediscover the form that once thrilled South African football fans.
Earlier, Mbule also missed selection for the Bafana Bafana squad ahead of the FIFA World Cup.
