Former Highlanders Player Godfrey Muzanenhamo Killed On Patrol

A former Highlanders Football Club player has been tragically killed. Godfrey Muzanenhamo was gunned down by an unknown assailant while on a routine patrol with his local neighbourhood watch committee in Emakhandeni, Bulawayo. The community is in a state of shock and mourning following the violent death of a man who was dedicated to keeping his neighbourhood safe.

According to the BMetro, the incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, 14 November 2025. Muzanenhamo was with his fellow crime fighters when they encountered a group of men. The situation escalated rapidly and ended in tragedy.

Rushed To The Hospital In Vain

After the single gunshot, Muzanenhamo’s colleagues acted quickly. They rushed the injured man to Mpilo Central Hospital for emergency treatment. He was immediately admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, fighting for his life. Despite the best efforts of medical staff, Muzanenhamo sadly succumbed to the head wound he sustained. The BMetro reported the sombre mood that fell over the Emakhandeni suburb following the news of his death. A source close to the patrol described the chaotic scene, stating:

“The patrol team stopped the men and asked where they were headed at that hour. Without warning, one of the suspects allegedly drew a firearm and shot Muzanenhamo once in the head before fleeing into the darkness.”

A Father And A Footballing Figure Mourned

Hundreds of mourners gathered to pay their respects at the Muzanenhamo family home at number 70220 New Lobengula. Godfrey Muzanenhamo was known not only for his time with the legendary Highlanders club but also as a dedicated family man. He was the father of Nicole Muzanenhamo, a star player for the Zimbabwe national netball team, the Gems. Nicole represented her country at the prestigious 2023 Netball World Cup in England, highlighting the family’s deep connection to Zimbabwean sport.

Police Hunt For Killers Continues

As the community grieves, the hunt for the individuals responsible continues. The assailants remain at large, and police investigations are ongoing. There is a palpable call for justice from residents of Emakhandeni who have lost one of their own. The neighbourhood watch committee, a voluntary group formed to combat local crime, has suffered a devastating blow.

A police spokesperson confirmed the active investigation, saying:

“We are pursuing several lines of enquiry and urge anyone with information to come forward. This was a brutal attack on a man serving his community.”
